Given that 2ln⁡(x+1)+ln⁡x=ln⁡(x+9)2\ln(x + 1) + \ln x = \ln(x + 9), show that x=9x+2x = \sqrt{\frac{9}{x + 2}}.
5(b) [2]
It is given that the equation x=9x+2x = \sqrt{\frac{9}{x + 2}} has a single root. Show by calculation that this root lies between 1.51.5 and 2.02.0.
5(c) [3]
Use an iterative formula, based on the equation in part (b), to find the root correct to 3 significant figures. Give the result of each iteration to 5 significant figures.

The polynomial p(x)p(x) is defined by p(x)=x3+ax+b,p(x) = x^{3} + ax + b, where aa and bb are constants. It is given that (x+2)(x + 2) is a factor of p(x)p(x) and that the remainder is 55 when p(x)p(x) is divided by (x−3)(x - 3).
6(a) [5]
Find the values of aa and bb.
6(b) [5]
Hence find the exact root of the equation p(e2y)=0p(e^{2y}) = 0.
